I just happened upon this video at the end of the day. File this under “Reasons Brian needs to learn German.”
Tjeu’s 2009 Nissan Navara
Meet Tjeu and his 2009 Nissan Navara Diesel. Someone with a pick-up who actually has it for the purpose it’s meant for; doing a lot of (heavy) work and hauling. Who can give a more objective opinion about this Navara than someone who actually lets it sweat? Let’s find out if the Navara is really as good as the press leads us to believe.
DSMSO19: In Pictures
We actually missed the Shootout on Sunday, but we have an excuse! (Read: Blame it on the Irish Car Bombs.)
Electric Hilux Update
The project continues. Way back in late 2010 I began writing about my project to convert a 1986 Toyota Pickup (22R 4spd) to electric drive. (Read here)
Since then, I have gained a few things, and lost a couple. The things I’ve gained are skills and appreciation, specifically appreciation for just how long a project like this takes. Like any other automotive endeavor it can sit for weeks or even a month and the only things that have been added are piles of junk that festoon what should be an object of pride.

Free Candy!
There’s a good gearhead story around every corner. Recently, while ordering up some parts for a friend of ours down under, I got to talking to Jeremy Boysen at JBautosports about Free Candy Racing, the LeMCar team he started with his friends in Iowa.

There are so many meetings during the summer time, you could visit one every day if you wanted to. How do you decide which one to go to? How do you know it’s worth a two hour drive? Well, you look into the history of that meeting. We did this as well, and found one meeting being held every Thursday from May till October and has been around for almost eight years. Every week there are at least 50 cars. Even on rainy Thursdays. What makes this meeting so special? Why do people from Belgium, Germany and even Luxembourg come to the Netherlands to visit this meeting on Thursday evenings? Let’s find out!

Belgium… A country well known for its fries, beer, chocolate and… RALLIES! A country that only exists 181 years, and originally belonged to the Netherlands, is now becoming one of the most loved rally areas by both national and international rally teams. When we received information about a rally team from Belgium and found out they were rallying a Porsche 911 and Opel Manta B, we just knew we had to ask them for an interview. Meet L&H Historic Team, a team of enthusiasts, who spend all their free time on their biggest hobby; rally.
This Is Why We Do It Ourselves
It’s Monday, and some of us have a fresh scratches on our arms, busted knuckles, and maybe a little grime under our fingernails. These are our battle scars, signs of a weekend spent doing something important, something most of the people at work or school will never understand. There was work to be done, we did it ourselves, and we have the marks to prove it.
