Gearhead Manifesto V
This is the fifthof SIX installments detailing our beliefs on the global gearhead movement. These will lead to the rules, so – if you’re a real gearhead – please make a point of letting us know how you feel about these statements. Do you agree or disagree? Did we miss anything?
DRIVING HABITS
Now that we’ve shared how gearheads think about platforms, how we view our automotive pursuits, our thoughts on the maintenance & repair mindset, and modifications, let’s talk about driving habits. How do proper gearheads act behind the wheel?
On the STREET:
- We put safety first. This ensures we don’t waste money fixing things unnecessarily.
- We stick to the speed limit, but it’s okay to go a little quicker when it’s reasonable and prudent to do so.
- We always use our turn signals so other drivers know our intentions.
- Gearheads never text and drive and avoid using the cell phone behind the wheel.
- Rechtsfaren. We drive on the right, and only pass on the left.
- Gearheads know the difference between drivers and operators.
- It’s fun to get the jump from a stoplight, but we don’t street race.
- Behind the wheel, driving is our first priority.
- Real gearheads NEVER drink and drive.
On the TRACK (or OFF-ROAD):
- Again, we put safety first. Motorsport is dangerous, but safety keeps us racing.
- At the end of the quarter-mile, we allow the guy in the outside lane to cross first.
- On the road course, we know when to let the faster driver pass safely.
- We try to keep our racing lines clean.
- Gearheads are always open to additional training to improve their skills.
- Off-road, we Tread Lightly, to ensure there will always be off-road opportunities.
