Mike Little’s Beast from Down Under
Mike Little has quite a collection of cars. A collection of cars many enthusiasts would love to own separately, let alone all together. Luckily, we got the chance to interview him, see for ourselves what he and his cars are about, and hear his stories. Today, we start with what Mike reffers to as ‘The Beast’… One with a bit of imagination knows enough now…
Being a Car Guy Dad
Once upon a time, my friend Kamil Kaluski, a true gearhead, found himself staring down the barrel of fatherhood. He was living and working in downtown Boston and, without a proper house, garage, and three never-ending projects, he created a website as an outlet for his automotive passion. That website was called CarGuyDad. He’s since moved on to help run Hooniverse, but the term “Car Guy Dad” has always resonated with me.
#GTKY: Favorite Race Tracks
Yesterday we shared a story of two gearheads from opposite sides of the planet who just happened to run into each other at the Nürburging. It seems everyone knows the Nürburgring, but there’s plenty more race tracks on the planet. If you could race your favorite machine around three of them…
Gearheads United at the Nurburgring
We’ve all seen some pretty incredible machines, many of them built by people we might never meet, who live thousands of miles away, and speak languages we don’t understand. The language of the automobile, however, we understand. We look at their cars. They look at our cars. Things make sense. Being a gearhead is universal. This story involves two gearheads, three countries, a limited edition Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and hot laps around the infamous Nürburgring.
#GTKY: The Longest Mile
For #GTKY today, I want to share a story with you. What follows is both thrilling victory and agonizing defeat, but first, a little backstory. I’ve recently sold my 92 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 – to a friend. Over the past two months, I’ve replaced the sketchy, leaking engine that was in it with the cherry lump I had on a stand for my 91 GVR4 race car. Today was the day I was finally going to deliver the Galant to its new owner. If you’ve had an experience anything like the one I’m about to relate, I’d sure like to hear about it.
GBXM European Tour 2012
Can I tell you a secret? I know more gearheads in Australia than I do neighbors on my own block. In some respects, I know that’s terrible, but in others, it’s totally awesome. Every other year, my wife and I try to get out and see the world – the world of gearheads. We at Gearbox Magazine want YOU to be able to experience stuff like this too, so I’m going to keep you in the loop as things progress in the coming months.
Forum Friday #4: Gearhead News from Across the Web
As another week comes to an end, we bring you Forum Friday, and a short list of the discussion threads we found while prowling the web in search of people like you with stories to tell right here on Gearbox Magazine.
Why Bill Caswell Rules
A few years back, this guy picked up an old beater BMW 3er off Craigslist, hastily prepared it for stage rally, then took it down to WRC Mexico. Since then, people have been talking about Bill Caswell – and not all of it pleasant. They say the $500 BMW had a $10,000 M3 engine. They say he half-asses everything he does. They say he has no respect for motorsport. They’re right.
Toyota Corona MKII on a budget
A budget rebuild; it’s a thing that either goes completely according to plan, or it doesn’t… So many things need taken care of, and only so much money to spend. Travis got a free car – it was a big plus that it was a very nice looking MKII Corona – and decided to go down the ‘budget rebuild’ road. He did a fine job and got the Corona back on the road after sitting in the woods for years.
